Caring for our mouth and teeth is often not a top priority when it comes to self-care. Sure, we all know that we should brush our teeth twice a day and floss regularly, but our oral care routine can become quite quick and mindless. Oil Pulling is an Ayurveda ritual that detoxes your mouth and pulls toxins out of the body. All you need to do is swish a tablespoon of coconut oil in your mouth for 15-20 minutes first thing of a morning to reduce potentially harmful bacteria in your mouth.

Our mouths are home to hundreds of different types of bacteria, some of which can lead to bigger dental issues. Whilst Oil Pulling is only helpful for the surface, which means you can’t resolve deeper issues like cavities, it can reduce bad bacteria in the mouth which should decrease bad breath and the risk of gingivitis, cavities and plague buildup.

We are big advocates for Oil Pulling here at Prae. If you’re thinking of giving it a go, we recommend trying it as soon as you get up, then you can multi-task and swish it around whilst you’re having a shower or washing your face. Tip: Just don’t spit the coconut oil down your sink or toilet, as it can cause plumbing issues.
